Air Guns

Thank you for contacting me about air guns.

The Government is currently reviewing the regulation of air weapons licensing with a view to deciding whether the current regulatory position, which is already strong, continues to be appropriate and effective. The Minister for Policing and the Fire Service has made clear that the review will look carefully at the existing controls on air weapons, including how best to ensure that these weapons are stored safely and securely.

Although at present no licence is required to possess low-powered air weapons, the misuse of air weapons in this country is caught by criminal law, and they are still tightly regulated. Similarly, the sale of air weapons is prohibited to those under 18, and except in special circumstances, under 18s cannot possess them; exceptions include the use of the weapon as a member of an approved shooting club and being under the supervision of a person who is at least 21.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
