Thank you for contacting me about Israel and the Balfour Declaration.
This month the UK marked the centenary of Balfour Declaration, which I believe was indispensable in laying the foundations of the State of Israel. The declaration was made after centuries in which the Jewish people had suffered persecution and alas worse to follow. I am pleased that the state of Israel was created as a homeland for the Jewish people and that the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu was in London, as a guest of the Government, on the centenary of the Balfour Declaration.
The Government continues to support a two-state solution with a state of Israel, as the Jewish homeland, and a viable and sovereign Palestinian state. The Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, reiterated this position when he visited Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories in March. I look forward to the future where I hope UK - Israel cooperation continues to grow.
