I am very pleased that elderly people in care homes have been prioritised to receive Covid vaccines. I know this has been an incredibly challenging time for residents, their families and care home staff.
Sussex has one of the highest numbers of nursing and care homes per capita across the country. However, brilliant teams from GP led services and from the Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust have been working incredibly hard to vaccinate our older care home residents.
In a recent update from Sussex CCG I am told that as of 25th January 90% of residents of all care homes for older people in Sussex have been vaccinated.
Unfortunately, some care homes are currently experiencing cases of Covid amongst their residents. This means that in some cases homes or those residents who are unwell have not been able to be vaccinated.
I am assured that for these homes and residents, the vaccination teams have a clear schedule in place and will be revisiting 28 days after a positive test. The limited number of delayed vaccinations do not seem to be seriously effecting Care Homes for the elderly in the Horsham constituency but as ever if any Care Home has concerns on the roll out I would be keen to hear from them.
