I was extremely disappointed to hear that colleagues have submitted letters requesting a vote of confidence in the Prime Minister as Leader of the Conservative Party.
The Prime Minister continues to negotiate on behalf of the United Kingdom to deliver our full exit from the European Union while retaining the economic and trading benefits that flow from our close proximity.
A leadership contest now would be an unwelcome and unnecessary distraction. It would not be in the interests of the United Kingdom or Brexit.
I will be pleased to support the Prime Minister in the confidence motion this evening.
