I met, in Westminster, Robert Light the Head Commissioner of ICCAN (the Independent Commission of Civil Aviation Noise) to discuss noise issues arising from Gatwick Airport.
ICCAN is an advisory body which provides impartial advice to government, regulators and the UK aviation industry on the management of aviation noise.
We discussed the many ways in which aviation noise can and must be reduced in the future including through technological advances, reducing the time aircraft spend in ‘stacking’ and better airspace management. We also discussed Gatwick’s new interactive flight monitoring system, Webtrak: https://webtrak.emsbk.com/lgw2 which recognises the user’s location and shows aircraft movements and ambient noise in the vicinity.
ICCAN expect to publish their report later this year on sonar and noise attitudes. An independent advisory body in this area is very welcome and I look forward to more productive discussion with ICCAN in the future.
