On Wednesday 20th April, I spoke in a Westminster Hall debate in Parliament on the effect of aircraft noise on local communities. I spoke of the horrific impact if Government were to go against the clear recommendation of the Davies Commission by approving a second runway at Gatwick Airport. A copy of the Hansard of this debate with the Minister’s response at the end can be viewed here: https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2016-04-20/debates/16042033000001… I was pleased that the Minister acknowledged the point of lower ambient noise in rural areas. He also confirmed in response to my request that the Government will be consulting on night flights later this year. Lastly, in response to another direct question he confirmed that the practicalities of positioning our aircraft stacks over the sea will be explored.
