As of the 18th January, 4,062,501 people in the UK have received a vaccination. Over half of over 80s and half of elderly care home residents have been vaccinated.
We are vaccinating at a pace faster than any other country in Europe and I am very pleased that ten, large-scale vaccination centres across the country will be opening this week.
From the beginning of this week, millions of people aged 70 and over and those clinically extremely vulnerable to Covid-19 will be invited to get their vaccinations.
The priority remains to vaccinate care home residents and staff, those aged over 80 and frontline health and care staff. Clearly will be made to assist those areas where this remains the overriding focus.
However where areas have already vaccinated the majority of people in these groups, they are able to start inviting the over 70s and clinically extremely vulnerable, subject to the supply of vaccine.
Despite this good progress it is important that we all continue to follow the rules in order to keep everyone safe.
