Rev. Hassan Abduraheem, Mr Petr Jasek and Mr Abdumonem Abdumawla

Thank you for contacting me about the sentences of the Rev. Hassan Abduraheem, Mr Petr Jasek and Mr Abdumonem Abdumawla in Sudan.

I was deeply concerned by the verdict in this case.

The British Government has raised its concerns over this case, as well as the wider issue of freedom of religion and belief directly with the Government of Sudan, most recently on 17 January, and I am assured that they will continue to do so as part of the dialogue on human rights.

I understand from the Foreign Office that the defendants do have the right to appeal against their sentences, and I will follow any appeal closely.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
