Supporting Our Young People

Calls for a support and advice hub were taken up by Mr Quin, working with the local NHS and other agencies. The new support and advice hub for young people will open on 3rd July, with an official launch on 14th July.

I have spoken to the Police Incident Commander following the altercation in Horsham late last night that resulted in serious (but not life threatening) injuries to three individuals.

One of us is a successful doctor and TV star and one of us is definitely not (!) but we are both united in improving mental health in young people.

Today is World Mental Health Day, a chance to talk about mental health, how we need to look after our mental health and how important it is to talk and get help if you are struggling with your mental health.

I visited 4TheYouth at their Hurst Road site back in May and I was excited to hear of the plans the team had to support local young people.

There is no higher priority than looking after the health and wellbeing of the next generation.  They are in every way our future.

I have been regularly told by young people and their parents how difficult it is to know how to get help with emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Southwater Youth Project do great work with local young people both in Southwater and at a number of a local schools. We are all acutely aware of young peoples’ mental health and wellbeing and I was delighted to hear how SYP have been offering support to young people.

Great to see 4TheYouth in its new home in Hurst Road, the Hurst Road site was always intended to support the young people of Horsham and there are fabulous plans to get it going again.

On Friday, I met with Cllr Liz Kitchen and the team at Horsham District Council to discuss the planned mental health hub for young people in Horsham.

I am delighted that HDC are being so proactive about the hub and I look forward to working with them further to develop these plans.
