As I look back on 2023 one of the great successes was the opening of i-Rock Horsham District. I campaigned for i-Rock following discussions with young people at Millais and Collyers. They were very clear they wanted somewhere away from home and school where they and their friends could talk to a trusted adult, without the need for a referral, about how they were feeling and any concerns they had.
I was delighted when i-Rock Horsham District opened in July of this year. Dr Alex George, TV personality and the Government’s Youth Ambassador for Mental Health, joined us for what was a really positive occasion, since when the i-Rock has been available to support young people from Horsham and further afield.
I visited the team on Friday to hear how their first few months have been going and was delighted to hear that the centre is being very well used and that they are providing support to local young people supported by good interconnectivity with local schools and Collyers.
The team at i-Rock can help with a range of issues; including (but by no means limited to) mental health or emotional wellbeing concerns and I really would encourage any young person aged between 14-25 who may be concerned about themselves or have a friend about whom they are worried to meet the team. They are on hand to help.
As with every Christmas I am thankful, as I know are we all, to those working in our emergency services and armed forces who continue to be there to look after us throughout the holiday. I am also very grateful to our very many volunteers who will continue to provide help and support over what can be a difficult time for many.
Our police teams will continue to work including our newly established Horsham Town Police Team- another great success which launched this year. Christmas, alas, can be a difficult time for policing but I am pleased that we now have a dedicated team in place focussed on ensuring our town does not loose its strong reputation for being a peaceful and friendly place to live and work.
On which note, may I wish you all a very happy Christmas.
