Parliament has an incredibly important job to hold Government to account for the big calls that need to be made in the national interest. The most important of these is making certain that we stay safe and well defended, deterring aggressors from attacking our allies and our interests.
Yesterday, I led a Commons debate to highlight the Defence Committee’s report on armed forces readiness and the Public Accounts Committee’s report on defence equipment. It was a very well-informed debate with the Minister setting out the steps already taken to improve readiness and procurement but more needs to be done.
