I was very sad to hear today the announcement of the death of Frank Field, long term Labour MP for Birkenhead and member of the House of Lords.
I had the privilege of working with Frank during my time on the DWP Select Committee, which he chaired, and particularly so during the committee's inquiry into the BHS pensions. I greatly respected his insight and fearlessness in taking on vested interests wherever they lay. He was a good person and a friend to many across the House and will be much missed.
Constituents on occasion write to me to raise concerns about PMQs and the partisan nature of Parliament. However, the work of select committees brings together MPs from all parties to work together on issues that affect everyone. Frank was the epitome of thoughtful, challenging, cross party working and he will be much missed. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
