2023 has, as ever, been busy year! It is a privilege every year to be able to assist hundreds of constituents with a wide range of concerns and problems. As we enter the New Year if I can be of assistance do please get in touch by emailing jeremy.quin.mp@parliament.uk
When I look back on the positives this year has seen a really effective push for more awareness of lobular breast cancer. Around 8,500 women a year are diagnosed and whilst we have made great improvements in overall breast cancer survival rates, lobular remains harder to diagnose and treat.
I have been inspired by the campaigning work of Dr Susan Michaelis, a local resident diagnosed with lobular and her Lobular Moon Shot team. Many will recall the screening of “Eve Groves” at The Capitol in May - a very powerful documentary on this horrible disease.
Earlier in the year I arranged for Dr Michaelis to meet the Health Minister and I have been pleased to follow that up in recent weeks with questions in Parliament, including Prime Minister’s Questions in which I received positive response: Dr Michaelis meeting Vicky Atkins, the Secretary of State of Health prior to a well-attended MPs drop-in event to learn more about an issue that impacts constituents across the country.
The campaign is getting a really positive reaction. There is never enough money to do all the research we need and this is one of many very worthy causes but given the broader progress being made on cancer this is a great opportunity I want to see taken up.
I would like to thank all of our local charities for their work over the year but especially those helping over Christmas.
Horsham and Crawley Samaritans (who celebrated their 50th anniversary this year) have continued to answer phone calls 24 hours a day, helping those struggling during the festive period. Horsham Matters and the Horsham Debt Advisory Service undertake invaluable work through their excellent team of local volunteers. They are among many locally who do so much for our communities and for which we are hugely grateful.
I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!
