After hearing the results of the school admissions process I spent most of Friday speaking to the County Education department and the Heads of all our local secondary schools. I then joined the regular Horsham District Councillors and Southwater Parish Councillors Surgery in Southwater on Saturday morning.
While across the area there are parents and pupils disappointed with their allocations there is a particular issue in Southwater with certain pupils being allocated places at Burgess Hill and I wanted to speak direct to parents affected and share with them my own concern. I know parents will be making use of the appeals process and in the past this has resolved many issues.
However I am very concerned that this issue has arisen. I am discussing with County how it will be resolved and what they can put in place now to ensure that it does not become a regular occurrence while we go through the current wave of increased sizes of secondary admissions. We also need the appeals process to take place as soon as possible to provide certainty. County is very aware of the concerns and I am very grateful that all the local Heads are very keen to help.
