Horsham resident Dr Susan Michaelis who has been spearheading the campaign for better awareness and research into lobular breast cancer received a major boost for her "Lobular Moonshot Campaign" this week in a speech from the Health Secretary, Victoria Atkins.
In a speech focussed on improving women's health outcomes the Minster specifically highlighted the campaign, recognised that lobular accounts for 15 per cent of breast cancers and stated that she would be encouraging specific research into the disease.
The announcement followed a parliamentary lobby day and Jeremy Quin, Susan's MP, raising the issue in Prime Minister's Questions and securing a meeeting between Susan and the Health Secretary.
Jeremy said “I congratulate the Moonshot team on their formidable work. It's a really important milestone for the campaign with the vital need to address lobular being recognised at the very top of the DHSC. The announcement follows meetings with Ministers last year and there will be more to come as we ensure this ambition get the funding we need to deliver the research required to take on this horrible disease."
