Jeremy Quin, MP for Horsham, has raised concerns about Horsham District Council’s (HDC) finances and the proposed increase in car parking charges in the town centre.
Jeremy said: “I am concerned that HDC has recommended that the price of a day pass for Piries Place car park rise by 60% from February 2024 among other increases. Last weekend we marked “Small Business Saturday”; HDC has to realise that this dramatic increase is a tax on residents, including those who have to rely on a car, and a tax on those coming in to support our local shops. In an era of online shopping we simply cannot afford to be complacent about our shops whether in Horsham itself or the villages.
Given the cost of living every effort must be made to keep costs for residents as low as possible. These increases may have been timed to coincide with Full Council being deeply focussed on the Local Plan but it should be subjected to rigorous scrutiny.”
