Last week saw the launch of the Big Butterfly Count. Running for over three weeks (until 7th August) people throughout the UK are being asked to spend 15 minutes outside in a sunny spot and count the amount and type of butterflies they see. Results can be submitted using the following website where there is also a guide to identifying butterflies: www.bigbutterflycount.org.
The Big Butterfly Count helps scientists to understand more about what is happening to the nation’s butterflies. We know that at the Warnham Nature Reserve we have an extraordinarily diverse range of butterflies and moths and it would be good to be able to track this more widely - especially as increasing numbers of species are coming under threat.
