Energy Prices Bill:
The Government is putting forward the Energy Price Bill which will enable the implementation of the following schemes:
The Energy Price Guarantee:
More information about the EPG can be found on this section of my website: https://www.jeremyquin.com/news/supporting-people-and-businesses-energy…
The Energy Bill Relief Scheme:
The Energy Bill Relief Scheme means the Government will assist all eligible non-domestic customers, such as businesses and public sector organisations, including schools, hospitals, car homes and charities.
The Energy Bill Support Scheme Alternative Funding:
This will provide the £400 of support for households across the UK that otherwise would miss out on the Energy Bill Support Scheme as they do not have a domestic electricity contract.
Alternative Fuel Payments (Domestic):
This will deliver a one-off £100 payment to UK households who are not on the main gas grid and heat their homes with fuels like heating oil. I have written to the Minister to ask for more information as to how people can apply for this payment and when the payments can be expected.
Alternative Fuel Payments (Non-Domestic):
The Government will support non-domestic consumers who are unable to get support for heating costs through the Energy Bill Relief Scheme because they use heating oil or alternative fuels, not gas, likely to be in the form of a flat rate payment.
Pass-through Requirements on Intermediaries:
The Government will ensure end users will get support in cases where intermediaries procure energy on their behalf. This includes landlords passing benefits on to tenants.
Heat Networks:
The Bill will ensure that heat networks that benefit from the Energy Bills Relief Scheme pass on savings to consumers. The Bill provides for the creation of an Alternative Dispute Resolution body to handle any complaints raised by consumers.
Cost-plus Revenue Limit:
The Government is moving low carbon electricity generators to fixed prices, severing the link between high gas prices and the price of electricity. This means consumers will pay fair prices and that generators will not unduly profit from Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The Bill creates powers for a temporary fixed price for low carbon generators not already on a Contract for Difference.
This urgent assistance will follow the Government’s action to help people in these challenging times, including the £150 Council Tax rebate, the £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme and the Cost of Living Payments to help vulnerable households.
