Yesterday I attended GTR’s parliamentary drop in where I spoke to CEO Angie Doll about the need for improved rail infrastructure between Horsham and Crawley.
This is an issue on which I am determined to make progress. It had met resistance given the uncertainty around rail passenger numbers post Covid.
I am delighted to have the support of Transport for the South East and it’s positive to hear that rail passenger numbers are recovering fast. I have a meeting on this scheduled for later in the month.
I also spoke to members of Network Rail yesterday about the need for a long-term plan to fix or replace the lifts at Horsham Station. I know many customers need access to these lifts and Network Rail informed me that they are working with the British Transport Police to help prevent misuse and vandalism and seeking budget for long-term improvements. I have pressed them for an action plan on both.
